The Birthday of the Man Who Created the World’s Largest Democracy

Birthday of my maternal grandmother’s uncle today. The man who created the Union of India. Sardar Patel of Karamsad. The people of the village of Karamsad have a certain reputation of not being very good at taking orders and of speaking their mind. Oh, and a degree of pride. Ancestoral village of the man who created the world’s largest democracy and ended the largest empire in the history of the world. His home there, has traditional floors of made of cow-pat. If the Empire was conceived on the playing fields of Eton, its demise was planned on the cow-pat floors of Karamsad. His wish – that the farmers would be cared for – yet to be realised. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karamsad
